Is European Union entering climacteric ?

Posted June 13, 2009

The recent elections to the European Parliament showed an unprecedented unwillingness of European citizens to participate in the most democratic function of the Union. Average attendance fell to 43% and everywhere it was below levels in recent national elections. Europeans appeared resistant to change, complaining about immigration and in no humor to allow scandals in the governing strata. The center-left failed to take advantage of the economic crisis whereas support for center-right parties remained firm and a protestation vote went to populist and far-right parties promising to close borders, move out immigrants or disassemble the Union.

More than fifty years have passed since the entry into force of the EEC Treaty and during this period the EU had many transformations: from a continental economic union it has been transformed into a super-state which is expanding both horizontally, embracing states of the Continent, and vertically, creating new policies. Consequently, it is very difficult to define a certain time point in order to create an horoscope of the Union. But it is possible to determine three major steps for the present formation of the EU:
A. 25.3.1957 Signing of the treaty of Rome, the hour is unknown. The treaty entered into force on 1.1.1958 hour 00:00. This date and time for Brussels, the administrative capital, is logical and acceptable for the horoscope of the EEC (N. Campion, Book of World's horoscopes ) and it shall be used here as a basis.
B. Creation of the European Union by the Treaty of Maastricht which entered into force on 1.11.1993, hour 00:00, similarly for Brussels.
C. On 16 April 2003 the leaders of the then fifteen EU Member States and the ten countries who were to join them gathered in Athens to sign the treaty which would bring about the largest ever enlargement of the Union. I watched the ceremony on the TV and noted the hour. The Heads of State or Government of the 25 nations then mounted one by one to the podium to speak for three minutes each, before signing the Accession Treaty. It was 4.15 pm when the inaugural addresses began and the signing by the leaders of States ended at 05.30 pm. Here is the horoscope for Athens treaty.
The fist and third horoscope give an ascendant near the end of Virgo with the corresponding arrangement of the houses. The second is different with an ascendant in the middle of Leo.

Some remarks on the above horoscopes for the European Union:

  - A materialistic Moon exalted in Taurus, in horoscopes A ( 8th house ) and B ( 10th house ) stresses the economic respects of the EU.
  - The Uranus/Neptune square ( in A ) and conjunction ( in B ) indicate that immigration matters will be a constant issue in the Union.
  - A populated 4th house in the three horoscopes shows the center of authority in the rigid and uniform headquarters in Brussels.
  - A rather tight-lipped origin of power and decision-making is indicated by the position, near the cusp of the 4th house, of Pluto and Saturn, respectively.
  - The Pluto - Neptune sextile. I have noticed that aspects between Pluto, the super banker, and Neptune, the large masses, are persistently present when historical monetary changes happen ( 661- when a unique monetary system, based on the golden dinar, was imposed in the territories conquered by the Arabs;  1717- when John Law printed paper money exchangeable for mental coins;  1792- when the the Coinage Act established the dollar; 1913- when the US Federal Reserve System was created; 1971- when the world departed from its nearly 3000-year reliance on gold as the universal basis of money ). The fact needs a special study. As for the EU, the Single European Act (February 1986), which aimed to establish a large internal market, believed that, in order to achieve such a market, a genuine Economic and Monetary Union should be established, a goal which was set out in its Preamble. It conferred on the Community a ‘monetary capacity’, which is the possibility of adapting the Community institutions to the subsequent development of an economic and monetary policy. On 28 October 1990, at the Rome European Council, the launching of the second stage of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), the nature of the future single currency, the ecu and the number of countries eligible to participate in EMU, were discussed. On the above mentioned dates, as well as in the three horoscopes examined, the Pluto - Neptune aspects are present.

EU  An aware of astrology establishment : When the were asked why did they put the zodiacal cycle on the flag, they answered that they borrowed the symbol from the Council of Europe, to stress a continuity. Why did the Council of Europe use this symbol, they were not asked.

Having all that in mind, I dare to say that Saturn passing over the ascendant of the EU and entering Libra in October will give an introverted persona to the Union along with financial difficulties. Further enlargement seems impossible, at least for the following two or three years. The middle age crisis seems to approach an ambitious undertaking set in motion fifty years ago. Union's further development depends on heavier transits of Pluto, Uranus and Neptune, who already are moving in or towards important sectors of its horoscope but such a long term examination was not the purpose of this article.

By the way, in ancient Greek philosophy and astrology, the climacterics were certain purportedly critical years in a person's life, marking turning points. According to the astrologers, the person would see some very notable alterations to the body, and be at a great risk of death during these years. Authors on the subject include the following: Plato, Cicero, Macrobius, Aulus Gellius, among the ancients.
